Tata Chemicals announces new SBU
structure
July 31, 2003
Tata Chemicals today announced the restructuring of its organisation
into three strategic business units (SBUs): chemicals, fertilisers
and food additives. Each SBU will be headed by a chief operating
officer who will be responsible for the revenues and profitability
of the particular business.
The three COOs appointed to head the newly constituted SBUs
are: Kapil Mehan (for the fertilisers business), R Mukundan
(chemicals), and Satish Sohoni (food additives). The new structure
will come into effect from August 1, 2003.
The company expects to reap the following benefits from the
formation of the SBUs:
 |
Clear accountability on the financial performance
of each business. |
 |
Greater alignment of business teams to servicing
the market. |
 |
Better analysis of business performance. |
 |
Focus on business growth and strategy. |
| Leadership development. |
Commenting on the restructuring, Prasad Menon, managing director,
Tata Chemicals, said, "While we are seeing improved performance
across our company, we must continue to strengthen our businesses.
This restructuring will enable us to achieve the additional
improvements needed to become more customer-centric and build
a truly competitive global business."
